According to one of the legends, Valentine was a priest who used to serve during the third century in Rome. One day, the emperor decided that he would no longer allow young men to get married, because he believed that single, young men would make better soldiers, than those who were married and had families. Despite the emperor's decision, Valentine continued to marry young couples in secret and behind the emperor's back. Not much later, he was discovered and sent to kill. This is one of the many reasons behind many legends as to why we celebrate Valentine's day up to this date.

Saint Valentine's Day is one the most celebrated holidays in the world, most in the United states. It is celebrated in february 14th, also it is called like this because of the Saint called Valentine that he used to marry teenagers and keep the love going on at that time. The ''king'' was against to him and he got killed in february 14th and that's why this day is for the love and friendship. Because the Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. That´s why Claudius ordered that he be put to death. Nowadays we celebrate the St. Valentine’s Day in honor of the priest Valentine.

Some people believes that Valentine’s day is celebrated in the middle of february because of the Christian church. Christian church tried to ‘’Christianize’’ the celebration of Lupercalia, which was a festival that sacrifices a certain kind of animals to make women more fertile. After those sacrifices, all young women place their names in a big urn to get paired for a year with the bachelors of the city. This festival was outlawed in the 5th century because it was unchristian, then February 14 was declared St. Valentine’s Day by Pope Gelasius, but it took a lot of time to relate Valentine’s Day with love.
